Understand Islam 101

SALT Minisry provide classes on Islam and Evangelism

Course Program

Course Rationale:

American Christians have become increasingly aware of Islam. This is true for a number of reasons: 911, the United States’ war on global terror, advances in travel and communication, and the immigration of Muslims to the United States to name a few. Muslims are our coworkers and neighbors, yet, generally, little is known about them and what they believe.

This course will, therefore, provide a basic overview of slam from which Christian witness to Muslims can proceed.

Learning Outcomes:

Through participation in this course it is hoped the student will make progress toward the achievement of the following objectives:

A- Cognitive (knowledge and understanding)
  • Have an understanding of basic missiological and Islamic terms.
  • Have a basic understanding of the life of Muhammad and Islamic history.
  • Know the five pillars of Islam.
  • Have a basic understanding of Islamic theology and its similarities and differences with Christian theology.
  • Have a foundational grasp of Muslim culture.
  • Develop an initial approach toward evangelizing Muslims.
B- Affective  (attitudes)
  • Develop a deeper appreciation of mission in general and, specifically, mission to Muslims.
  • Love Muslims and pray for Muslims to be evangelized.
  • Grow in humility at the complexity of the task of evangelizing Muslims.
  • Develop a deeper appreciation for God’s revelation of Himself in Jesus Christ.Grow in desire to understand our own Christian faith.
